Artful Splodgers
October 2008 Newsletter

We can’t quite believe that we are about to celebrate one whole year, it seems just like yesterday that we were rushing around in our trial session to try and make everything perfect for our first paying customers! We’re especially pleased this term as two of our sessions have been full, so thank you for coming along and telling your friends about us too.

Each half term we try to increase the range of equipment we have, this term we acquired the painting window which we will now get out regularly and next half term we’re hoping to extend our play dough equipment, so look out for some great toys on that table in the next few weeks. If ever you have some ideas for new toys and equipment then please do let us know.

Don't forget, there are no sessions in half term week, Wednesday 29th October and Friday 31st October.  Sessions start again on Wednesday 5th November and Friday 7th November.

Dawn and Gill

Children In Need  Our second session this half term (12th and 14th November) will have a Pudsey Bear theme with lots of fun activities based on this familiar character. For every child who attends Artful Splodgers and Tiny Splodgers that week, we will donate £1 to the Children in Need Appeal. We’ll have a collection box for those of you who wish to make an extra contribution.

Kitchen rolls  We are collecting these to make crackers with in the Christmas session. If you are able to bring any in we would be so grateful, thank you.

Porridge Dough

This easy to make recipe is especially suitable for children who still like a little nibble at their dough as it is free from salt. It’s also great for children to help make it with you as it doesn’t require any cooking. Add 1 cup of flour and 2 cups of porridge oats into a bowl and mix. Gradually add 1 cup of water kneading until it has mixed. It’s sticky dough but great for all sorts of modelling.

Child protection policy

In accordance with the Derbyshire Safeguarding Children Board, we have produced a Child Protection Policy for Artful Splodgers. A copy is available for you to read in our green information folder, found with the leaflets on the entrance table. If you require any more information on this then please do have a chat with us. We are in the process of writing our health and safety policy which we hope to include in this folder very soon.
